$20,100 For A Rare NES Game?

mariogames:

A NES game has just sold on ebay for $20,100 and it’s supposed to be the most expensive video game ever sold.

The Nintendo Campus Challenge cartridge for the Nintendo Entertainment System was used during a national video game tournament Nintendo hosted in 1991 according to the auction blurb and gives it’s new owner, bidder p***s, the chance to play Super Mario Bros 3, Pin-Bot, and Dr. Mario against the clock.

Produced only for the event and presumed destroyed, the game is unique because it gives you one score for playing all three games based on a timer system.

The Campus challenges saw winners from each of the 58 locations sent to Orlando Florida to crown the National Champion at Disney World (think 80’s movie The Wizard with Fred Savage)

Unlike the Nintendo World Championships held previously where Nintendo gave winner’s copies of the special cartridges, the Campus Challenge cartridges were supposed to be destroyed. This was the only copy known to exist!

Game Console Rental - How Do These Video Game Rental Services Help?

Games Consoles

I read an interesting article today about game console rental by Bart Newman.

“Gaming consoles are hugely popular in this fast paced gizmo freak age. These gadgets allow you to have the luxury of recreation while on the move. At the same time these devices enable you to have the swiftness of action and presence of mind, the attributes that are almost indispensable in today’s world. Needless to say these do not come for free. Like everything else in life, you have to pay a price; and a quite hefty one in order to get one of these gaming consoles for yourself. Game console rental can solve your problem to some extent. If not for anything else, the gaming rentals will allow you to test the device before you spend a large sum of money on it.”

I totally agree with this point about game consoles being expensive. What if you buy a particular console and don’t like it. Or perhaps your friend next door buys “the other” popular console and you’d like to swap games?

Bart goes on to write…

“If you are about to buy a new gaming tool it is important that you are sufficiently aware of its features. A glance through the brochure or a couple of screen shots are simply not enough for you to decide whether you want to go for it or not. On the other hand, if you try out game console rental, very soon you are likely to know every detail about the console and that puts you in a better position as a customer.”

And then adds this point…

“However to get hold of a good video game rental shop is a tough job. The stores rarely have a good selection and it is probable that you won’t get what you are looking for. The web can come to your rescue in such a situation. Online gaming rentals are fast becoming very popular. They score high on the factors of cost and convenience. The best thing about these gaming platforms is that they give you a hands-on experience of the tool you are about to buy and at a much less cost. This can make you acquainted with the several features of the gaming consoles and also help you in choosing your favorite one. The online game console rental is more or less same as the renting a movie on the web and hence is easy to go about.”

I have been renting games for ages. The current high price of games combined with the fact that you never truly know if you’re going to live a game means that renting is the most sensible choice for gamers. If you like a particular game and feel it is worth buying then you can always stump up the cash after you have checked it out.

Thanks to Bart for a great article. I know when the next generation of consoles is launched I will be renting one to check it out first. As for game rentals I will be continuing to use them until the price of games comes down significantly!
